EU FAQ
This page will answer many ruling and card interpretation questions you may have about the EU expansion.
Q:Insightful Attack says:
*If you have seen the cards in your opponent's hand that the target character could defend with, you may choose the card the character uses for defense.
What if my opponent has played most of his cards and I know without a doubt there is a 5/1 in his hand, even though I haven't seen it - can I choose that card for him to defend with?
A: No. The condition of Insightful Attack is you must have seen that the player has the card you are going to call for in his/her hand. If you haven't seen any cards, if the cards you have seen are now discarded, or if you've seen your opponent's hand but there are no available cards to swap, then IA is just an A5.
Errata: The text on Insightful Attack should read:
*If you have seen any cards in your opponent's hand that the target character could defend with, you may play this card face up and choose the card the character uses for defense.
This change was made to avoid any confusion regarding which effect is resloved first: the attacker's or the defender's.
Q:How does Durge's Jetpack Surge play against Power Blast/Amphistaff Retaliation/insert power combat card?
A: First, here's the secondary text of Jetpack Surge:
*Before the attack card is revealed, move Durge adjacent to the attacker. Durge is now the target of the attack, if he was not before. Draw a card.
Remember, the defense card is revealed before the attack card (unless one of the cards says otherwise). So, after revealing Jetpack Surge immediately move Durge to any empty space adjacent to the attacker - this is what the asterisk (*) does for Jetpack Surge, it changes the standard order of resolution of secondary effects. After you move Durge, since you have already begun resolving the secondary effect, you continue resolving that effect until fully resolved or until another condition stops you. That means Durge is now the target of the attack and the player controlling Durge gets to draw a card.
Then the attack card is revealed. Certain power combat cards might seem like they would counter or prevent Jetpack Surge from moving Durge, but unless that power combat card says something like "after/before the defense card is revealed," it has no effect on JS.
The specific example of Power Attack has an additional effect in that the "target path" of Power Blast changes according to the space Durge is in after the move, but only if Durge was the first target of Power Blast. The target path does not change if Durge was a later target, because, in that situation, Power Blast was revealed before Jetpack Surge, even though Durge still gets to move.
The specific example of Amphistaff Retaliation results in a diminished effect for Nom's attack card: the only part of Jetpack Surge that gets cancelled by Amphistaff Retaliation is the defense value of 2 - Durge still gets to move and draw a card before Amphistaff is revealed.
The specific example of Insightful Attack does not change the order
of effect resolution, merely the order in which the cards are revealed.
Should
Durge be the target of an Insightful Attack and the player controlling
Thrawn chooses Jetpack Surge, ignore the "before the attack is revealed" portion
of Jetpack Surge; Durge still moves and his controller still draws a
card.
Q:If there are no empty spaces adjacent to the character attacking Durge, can Durge still defend with Jetpack Surge?
A: In this case Durge can not move as part of Jetpack Surge.
Q:Can I still play Double Saber Strike if I don't have an Asajj basic card to play? Also, can I attack a different target with the basic card from Double Saber Strike?
A: No and No. DSS says you must play a basic combat card; if you do not have a basic combat card to play, you can not play DSS. If Double Saber Strike is enough to kill the target, you must discard an Asajj basic card. DSS and the basic card that accompanies it can only ever target one character; you cannot use DSS to attack one target, then use the basic attack to attack another target.
Q:If Concussion Grenade or Force Storm damages two of a player's characters, does that player lose two actions on his/her next turn?
A: No, a single card of this type can only cause a player to lose one action, no matter how many of that player's characters are damaged by the card.
Q:If I am forced to discard Force Absorb does that count as being played?
A: That depends on when it is discarded. "Played" means
you used that card to defend Corran against an attack, not whether or not that
card is present in your discard pile. Even if some other effect forces you to
discard Force Absorb after it's played, Corran's Force Push cards
are still powered up, because the card Force Absorb was played. But
if Force Absorb is discarded directly from your hand, or directly from
your draw pile, then it wasn't ever played.
Q:How do you count diagonals when counting spaces for Expert Marksman?
A: Count the spaces as though Xizor were moving from the space he is in to the space occupied by the target.
