Dorkistan Deck: General Grievous the Seriously Painful

Before he appeared in the movies, GG (we're close like that), was revealed as the next big villain of the Star Wars franchise. A mysterious Jedi-killer, competent leader of armies, cyborg... wait, haven't we seen this before? It might have been obvious that Lucas wanted to draw parallels (and that's funny because Lucas managed to ruin both characters), but it still kicked ass when the General eliminated a bunch of Jedi like he was spring cleaning.

This is that Grievous - before the MagnaGuards (Who are somehow cooler than IG-88, which is hard to do. Meatbag.) and before the I-got-injured-by-Mace's-force-grip-so-now-I'm-a wheezing-coward crap. The guy who fights on his own terms, and wins because of it. Whirling Sabers is the heart of this deck, providing much needed defense and some serious offense if you have more than one of them to play. Multi-Attack is also nice to have, for dealing with those pesky clones that always seem to accompany Jedi.

Re: Dorkistan Deck: General Grievous the Seriously Painful

How has MULTIATTACK played out? I haven't playtested many cards that are returned to your hand rather than being discarded. We're exploring a card in Resident Evil that would *always* get returned to your hand rather than being discarded. I would imagine that an A3 doesn't do damage too much, except against weak minors?

Re: Dorkistan Deck: General Grievous the Seriously Painful

Multi-Attack has stood out in three ways.

  1. As a clone killer: This is a good card to clear out weak minors, usually in combination with a basic A5.
  2. As a defense drainer: After seeing this come out three or four attacks in a row to kill your minors off, when GG attacks the major a d3+ is often used to force 'multi' to the discard pile. This might not mean much to the Obi-Wans and Yodas of the universe, but forcing Anakin or Maul to toss a defense (or two) is vital.
  3. As the topper for Whirling Sabers.

This card is made effective by the Whirling Sabers combo and the plethora of A5s, which, incidentally, is exactly what it was designed to do. I haven't seen it outside this context, but I suspect you'd be correct in that it wouldn't have much use.

Re: Dorkistan Deck: General Grievous the Seriously Painful

It certainly looks to me like you've got the seriously painful down. Obi-wan still probably won't have any problems with him, but anyone else is in for a rough time. Luke probably matches up against him as well as anyone but Obi. Giving him SBD's seems like overkill.  And frankly, I'm not a fan of the basic card images -- I know you can do way better.

Surprisingly, good (really good) basic images for Grievous are hard to come by. These were an attempt at making my own from scratch. I tend to use ED as an excuse to experiment with Photoshop: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
